The Cause
Helping young people understand their mental health starts with giving them the tools early.
The MITEY Run supports MITEY, an initiative of the Sir John Kirwan Foundation that supports mental health education in primary and intermediate schools across Aotearoa.
MITEY helps children build their understanding of mental health, recognise and talk about feelings, and learn how to support themselves and others. These are skills they can practise at school and carry into their homes, friendships and the years ahead.
As a former teacher, I've seen how much young people carry with them into the classroom. I've also seen the difference it makes when they feel connected, listened to and comfortable enough to ask for help. That's why this cause means so much to me.
Through the run and the conversations along the way, I want to help make talking about mental health feel more normal. I want young people to know that everyone faces challenges, that they can speak up and that there are people ready to listen.
Our fundraising goal is $50,000, with all donations through the event's Givealittle page going directly to MITEY to support its work in schools.
